“I waited six fucking years for a Dance with Dragons” – man does that hit home…
I caved and have been getting into the show a bit recently. And from what I can tell it’s be criticized a lot for the way it handles sex, particularly sex work – i.e. the omnipresence of underdressed whores as, essentially, stage props. On the one hand it does represent a world where sex work is taken for granted as an important, even necessary element of society, but on the other hand…. it’s a show all about power, and whores are often implied to have very little power, even over their own lives.
(Sorry this is so off-topic! But I would be interested in someone proving me wrong about this.)
