YOUR PRAYERS ARE GOING STRAIGHT INTO MY SPAM FILTER. PLEASE TEXT ME FOR QUICKER RESPONSE. – The Lord God
This week’s first video was featured by Jesse Walker in his “Friday AV Club” feature at Reason; it’s an early “stranger danger” scare film from 1963, and as Walker points out the most interesting thing about it is that it demonstrates just how much freedom kids used to have and how comparatively sensible most of the suggestions are (“don’t play in isolated industrial areas” rather than “don’t play outside”, and “stick together with friends” rather than “never get out of the sight of some authority figure”). Walker also discusses the film’s creator, Sid Davis, and mentions that he also made the infamous “Boys Beware”, an anti-gay scare film. I decided to feature that one as today’s second selection to make a point: compare the bogeyman myths the film promotes about gay men to the actual gay men you know, and then recognize that the same kind of lies are spread today about sex workers, our clients and our associates. All the links above the first video were provided by Popehat, and those between the videos by Radley Balko (“yabba” and “droit”), Jesse Walker (“irony”), Clarissa (“addiction”), Nun Ya (“unexpected”), Jason Kuznicki (“mannequins”), and Molly Crabapple (“gang”).

…You got me there
A bit of humor from a shooting list, which I guess didn’t make it in in time.
Actually, it did; I just didn’t find it the least bit funny. I hesitate to use the word “offensive”, so let’s just say “sophomoric” instead. Perhaps it’s just one of those things you have to be a guy to laugh at, though.
I am a guy and I didn’t find that funny at all. I almost cracked a smile, once, but that was it. it was mostly insulting. those guys need to grow up.
Ha, I just wish I would have thought of something like that when I first started reading your blog.
I loved in the first video that when the cops pulled the suspected abductor out of the car they went straight to typical cop behavior, slammed him on the hood of the car and handcuffed without a word being said.
Do you have a Facebook page or is the Honest Courtesan Blog your only public platform? You are a wonderful writer with insight I appreciate more often than not! I just shared this article on my Borderlands of Health and Wellness Facebook page and while it’s not a big page and is still under development, I hope you get a few views from it for your stats.
I don’t do Facebook; I don’t trust it at all. I’m also on Twitter (look just to the right of your comment) and I have other online articles in various places from time to time.
I don’t think your wrong for being wary of FB among other aspects of the digital age. I will follow you on Twitter.
