Drawing a line between “sexual exploitation” and “labour exploitation” in itself suggests that sex work is not work.  –  Borislav Gerasimov

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

The utter vileness of a pig talking dirty to another pig who’s pretending to be a kid cannot be overstated:

A…[DEA pig]…spent his time trying to arrange sex and soliciting naked pictures from [another pig fantasy role-playing as] a 14-year-old boy…Frederick Scheinin…of…Queens…faces charges…of attempting to…produce child pornography.  “As a [thug] at the DEA, Frederick Scheinin’s foremost responsibility was to [persecute minorities for enjoying themselves in a way their rulers don’t like],” said Geoffery Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York…

Drawing Lines

Think we should tell these ninnies that actresses & whores were until recently considered the same profession?

…[minor actresses]…are being propositioned daily by strangers with offers of [money]…for sex [just as they always have been]…”It’s high-end prostitution – it’s just scary”…[some woman named] Tyne-Lexy Clarson [absurdly whined]…after starring in series two of Love Island, an agency emailed, offering her £50,000 for five nights in Dubai…Tyne-Lexy says she refused the offer, but fears that [other less-prudish women might not, and thereby make more than her]…Rosie Williams, who starred in series three of [the same show]…says she was offered £100,000 a year [ie, roughly Maggie McNeill’s rate for a 19-week gig] plus all her clothes and bags, to become a companion to a man in Dubai…she says it is not spoken about in [ninny] circles… “We’re too ashamed”…

To Molest and Rape

Just another typical and representative cop predating on vulnerable women:

A Denver [cop raped]…a woman he first met when he responded to [a domestic violence] call last month…Johnny Leon-Alvarez…[then began to stalk] the victim…[who foolishly agreed to] go…on a date…with [him]…she “tried to say goodnight at the door” [but]…he [pushed his way] into the house…[where] the victim…”was trying to push him off of her”…she also stated “no” and “please stop”…[fortunately her]…roommate…was home…and…heard [the victim] say “no and please stop several times” [so the cop won’t be able to pull the usual cop trick of pretending it was consensual]…

Soap Opera (#735)

The “barcode tattoo” trope isn’t as popular as it was a few years ago, but it’s still often mentioned in cop wanking fantasies about tattoos in general:

[Gullible local news reporters are still parroting ludicrous cop masturbatory fantasies like “]Human trafficking victims are being branded and sold for sex in the Tampa Bay area[” even though the really imaginative prohibitionists have moved on to fantasies about microchips].  “It’s like branding cattle,” [bloviated pig fabulist] Alan Wilkett…[who masturbates while fantasizing about women with cheap tattoos he sees in public]…In some trafficking cases, the tattoo could be a barcode…“written in such a way…that if you scan that with your smart phone it’ll tell you she’s $25 or she’s $30″…[profiteer] Natasha Nascimento…[claimed] she’s seen children branded..”The youngest…I’ve seen…around 11-years-old…had dollar signs…tattooed onto both of her eyelids”…

In reality (as opposed to the weird world of cop masturbatory fantasies), barcodes are so finicky they won’t even work properly if scanned and reprinted.  But this ignoramus thinks a tattoo artist could apply one precisely enough to be read accurately from human skin.  And why the hell would anyone go to all that trouble?  These ugly fantasies of passive, vegetable-like women say a lot more about the prohibitionist who invents them than about any sex workers.

Sex Workers Against Trafficking (#822)

How GAATW became the only “anti-trafficking” organization actually concerned with fighting exploitation:

The Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) was founded in 1994 by a group of feminists and women’s rights advocates from, mostly, the Global South…[who] had witnessed the struggles of their compatriots with much less privilege than their own…and…heard the stories of working-class migrant women who had undertaken journeys in search of better livelihoods…Their stories…testified to the women’s courage, enterprise, and determination and challenged the stereotype of “the victim of trafficking”…In the beginning, some were uncomfortable with the idea that “sex work is work”.  However, their repeated interactions with individual sex workers and fledgling collectives forced them to question their middle-class mores…

Pyrrhic Victory (#846)

This dangerous mass surveillance tool won’t long be restricted to persecuting sex workers:

Beaumont, Texas [prosecutors have]…a new software that’s allows them to track ad’s [sic] [by] exploiting [the] human trafficking [hysteria to justify violating civil liberties].  The software is called Traffic Jam…[prosecutor] Kim Duchamp [bragged]…”We can use all kinds of different search parameters for phone number, email, key word searches, location certain date ranges, and…facial recognition”…Duchamp [also shared her sexual fantasies about]…Interstate 10 [and demonized]…”workers here from out of town”…

Pyrrhic Victory (#917)

Many more people die from scalpels than from meat cleavers:

The EU’s proposal for a temporary ban on facial-recognition technology won backing from Alphabet Chief Executive Sundar Pichai…but got a cool response from Microsoft President Brad Smith…Pichai [admit]ted…that the technology [will] be used for nefarious purposes…but…Smith…[vomited out “the] children[! and called giving pigs and spooks the power to keep all people in a perpetual electronic pig lineup]…“a reasonable alternative that will enable us to…address this problem with a scalpel instead of a meat cleaver”…Smith said it was important to first [wait until governments have established a total surveillance state before trying to] craft rules to [take it away from them]…

Morality Lessons (#953)

Just another typical and representative government thug:

A [typical and representative cop] was convicted on multiple counts for being a distributor and possessing over 4,000 images of…child pornography.  Matthew Laver…was sentenced to [only] 12 years in prison…Even though Laver had quit the police force in [Pennsylvania] three years before being arrested…his [stash of] kiddie porn dated back to his time in the Army and throughout his [career] as a [government thug, during which]…Laver spent 10 years online disseminating…porn which depicted…rape of children as young as infants…the problem of government agents viewing…child pornography on official Department of Defense computers has gotten so out of hand that [politicians can’t even cover it up any more]…an investigation called “Project Flicker”…identified over 5,000 individuals…with DOD…essentially running a child porn network on a government system…

Pyrrhic Victory (#992)

Still think those toothless facial recognition bans will rebottle the djinni?

…Clearview AI, devised a groundbreaking facial recognition app.  You take a picture of a person, upload it and get to see public photos of that person, along with links to where those photos appeared.  The system — whose backbone is a database of more than three billion images that Clearview claims to have scraped from Facebook, YouTube, Venmo and millions of other websites — goes far beyond anything ever constructed by the United States government or Silicon Valley giants…more than 600 [cop shops] have started using Clearview in the past year…[and] the computer code underlying its app…includes programming language to pair it with augmented-reality glasses; users would potentially be able to identify every person they saw…revealing not just their names but where they lived, what they did and whom they knew…“The weaponization possibilities of this are endless,” said Eric Goldman…of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University.  “Imagine a [typical and representative cop] who wants to stalk potential r[ape]…or… blackmail [victims] or [marginalized people to] throw…in jail”…

Torture Chamber (#999)

This will never change as long as screws have absolute power over their victims:

[A typical and representative screw at] Oregon’s only women’s prison…[named] Richard S. Alberts II…faces trial in February on federal drug trafficking charges…[but] Alberts [has a long history of raping and otherwise abusing women while his bosses punish his victims]…Sex abuse and misconduct cases, including about 10 active lawsuits against the state, have plagued the…prison since it opened in 2001 and through seven superintendent changes…convictions have ranged from rape and sexual assault to drug smuggling and [more rape]…prison officials…block…[caged women] from contacting attorneys unless they had existing cases.  After sending the [head screw bureaucrats] a letter threatening to involve the attorney general and governor, lawyer Michelle Burrows was able to contact her clients.  She described the prison as a “cesspool” where victims are punished and abusers are enabled…[rape victims are locked in dark holes] with no windows or clocks for 170 days, and denied meals and showers for days at a time…[they are also] threatened [with being] move[d] to an out-of-state prison away from…family and children if she d[o] not [deny the abuse]…

Disaster (#1000)

In a recent study of sex workers completed by the grassroots sex worker advocacy organization Hacking//Hustling…40% of participants reported experiencing increased violence after FOSTA became law

You don’t forfeit your constitutional rights when you try to board an airplane.  –  Dan Alban

Feminine Pragmatism

Wherever there are men making money, there will be women working to get some of it, despite the efforts of “saviors” to stop them:

When Peru’s military launched a major crackdown on illegal gold mining…last February, [cops arrested] dozens of women and girls, [proclaiming their interruption of the women’s]…flow of [cash was a “rescue”]…But…a year later…the…mines [have simply moved] deeper into the jungle – and the brothels and bars have followed [despite prohibitionist hand-wringing]…Regional governor Luis Hidalgo [parrots]…“human trafficking” [rhetoric, pretending]…Women…are [too stupid to understand]…sex [work]…and [fantasizing they would prefer shitty, low-paid work]…as cleaners…in restaurants and bars [to the lucative sex work they actually migrate for]…

To Molest and Rape

Now that some rapist cops are being prosecuted, they’re taking measures to silence their victims:

Days [after Jorden] Simms…[was] violently raped [by an Arizona cop]…with the last name French [after he arrested] her [on a bogus drug charge.  Then at the jail, she was raped by]…a [sow] with an unknown object [under the pretext of a “search”]…Simms reported [both rapes]…and both were supposedly investigated by…forensics nurses…after the…examination and rape kit, police claim a medical professional told them to go to another hospital because they lacked a piece of equipment…[but on the way] a [pig and a screw threw her out of a moving pigmobile, leaving her brain dead.  Pigs claim she magically escaped her handcuffs]…open[ed] a door which was supposedly unable to be opened by the back seat occupants [and leapt to her death]…the results of the rape kit have yet to be made public despite the exam taking place three weeks ago…

Choke Point (#847)

PayPal is now actively seeking to rat sex workers out to the pigs:

PayPal Holdings Inc will [conspire] with a leading U.S. anti-[sex] group in an effort to identify…money transactions [related to sex work]…Banks and other financial institutions are under [fascist] pressure to stop [sex workers] from [having access to banking services] and…anti-[sex worker] group…Polaris…will be creating a financial [surveillance] unit, with donated support and experts from [Paypal]…The scheme will identify “those who profit off of [consensual sex]…and [rat them out to the pigs],” [bragged] Sara Crowe…of Polaris…[fascist] groups have pushed for greater collaboration between governments, companies and non-profits to tighten the noose on [adults who have consensual sex]…

Panopticon (#897)

Old-fashioned Stasi-type surveillance isn’t dead yet:

A surveillance vendor that works with U.S. government agencies, such as the FBI, DEA, and ICE, is marketing spying capabilities to local police departments, including cameras that are hidden inside a tombstone, a baby car seat, and a vacuum cleaner…the offerings from Special Services Group…[affiliated with] Vigilant……[also] offer[s]…surreptitious recording devices…like an alarm clock/radio that can be inserted into [victims’] hotel rooms and faux utility boxes that can be placed in non-conspicuous areas (provided no one notices the absence of conduit running to/from the mock box)…in addition to a variety of super-small cameras that can be mounted damn near anywhere…

You Were Warned

We told you so, over and over and over again:

…former Vice President Joe Biden called for [the law that makes the open internet possible], Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, to be “revoked, immediately”…Biden said…“It should be revoked because [I and other politicians want total control of all public media]”…This wasn’t the first time [the career authoritarian] criticized the immensely important internet law. In previous interviews with outlets like CNN, Biden has said that “we should be considering taking away [freedom of speech on the internet],” but has never ventured as far as saying that it should be completely “revoked”…

Pyrrhic Victory (#956)

Not concerned yet?  You should be:

The U.S. military is…develop[ing] facial recognition technology that reads the pattern of heat being emitted by faces in order to…work in the dark and across long distances…“Sensors should be demonstrable in environments such as targets seen through automotive windshield glass, targets that are backlit, and targets that are obscured due to light weather (e.g., fog),” the Department of Defense indicated…The device should be able to operate from a distance of 10 to 500 meters…

Opting Out (#982)

Fascist profiteers sue to force censorship on everyone so they can profit from it:

Four age verification companies [filed suit]…challenging the Culture Secretary’s decision to shelve the scheme to impose age checks on all porn sites viewed in the UK…the companies are…also claiming damages…in the region of £3 million, for losses sustained developing age verification technology…[with which they intended to profit from the censorship] scheme…implementation was repeatedly delayed throughout 2019…The Government has said it aims to publish draft legislation this year, but it could take two to three years before the regulator is up and running…

A Broker in Pillage (#993)

Burying government in lawsuits is the only way to slow its depredations:

A retired railroad worker from [Pennsylvania] and his daughter in Massachusetts have sued two federal agencies and an agent in federal court…[because] they…[stole] his life savings of $82,373 at Pittsburgh International Airport this summer and won’t give it back.  Terry Rolin…and Rebecca Brown…[filed] suit against the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Transportation Security Administration…with the [help of the] Institute for Justice…[which is] seeking class-action status for others whose money has been [stolen in the same way]…Institute of Justice lawyers [have prevailed in]…similar [cases] in Houston and Cleveland…In August, Mr. Rolin entrusted Ms. Brown with…his and his parents’ [life] savings, so she could deposit it into a new joint bank account for him in Massachusetts.  Mr. Rolin said his parents lived through the Depression and kept their money hidden at home instead of in banks and he did the same.  But when he moved out of the family home and into an apartment he…became uncomfortable with having so much cash on hand, so he decided to put it into an account [only to have armed state thugs steal it at gunpoint]…

Watershed (#994)

The fashion & beauty industries owe their very existence to whores, and are finally admitting it:

Heaux Cosmetics is a new line of “sex-proof” makeup…designed specifically for sex workers.  “A lot of makeups claim they’re long-wearing, and you might be able to get through a cocktail with them, but not a blow job or a hot shower,” [said] the 29-year-old creator Lydia Dupra…The collection of roughly 25 products includes lipstick, eyeliner and eye shadow with cheeky names such as “In the Will,” “Offshore Account” and “Dubai,” and they’re made to be smear-resistant…Dupra says…“I told the laboratory, ‘No, I literally don’t want it to come off.”  (She suggests an oil-based makeup remover and “being patient” if you do indeed want to wash it off)…Dupra has already received nearly a thousand online orders, and she hopes to open a Los Angeles store in the next year. But her real ambition is…“I want there to be more businesses run by sex workers for sex workers so we keep the money in the community”…

To Molest and Rape (#1002)

Another specimen of the garbage the state pays to violate teenagers:

A [typical and representative school cop] in Michigan’s southwestern Upper Peninsula has been charged in the sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy…Brian Helfert [raped]…the boy…[on] Nov. 10…at Helfert’s home…[beside] work[ing] as a school [gestapo, he also had access to vulnerable teens as]…a…juvenile crime investigator…

I didn’t feel like she was really there to help me.  –  sex worker A.G, of a court-ordered “counselor”

King of the Hill

After a long slump, “King of the Hill” claims are again increasing:

…Portland…is a hub for sex trafficking….[with] the notorious ranking of coming second for the greatest number of children…in forced prostitution of all U.S. cities…One of the reasons it is a hot spot is…[that] strip clubs, live sex acts and swingers’ clubs are legal in Portland.  These businesses are often also places where traffickers lure workers into forced prostitution…Portland’s location at the intersection of major interstate freeways I-5 and I-84 puts it at the center of trafficking routes between Seattle, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Moreover, the city’s proximity to shipping waterways and the Canadian border provides access to domestic and international traffickers.  The demand from buyers is unfathomably high…around 300 advertisements are posted online every day for prostitution-related acts…total[ing] $60 million a year…

Most of this is just the usual snake oil intended to shame businesses into paying to subject their employees to bogus “sex trafficking” indoctrination from profiteers like BEST, but I find the “We’re the second worst!” pissing contest (with its attendant “causes” and pompous phraseology like “prostitution-related acts”) to be much more amusing.

Property of the State

The writer of this article appears to understand very little about politics, or else she’d recognize trolling when she sees it:

…South Carolina [politician]…Mia McLeod pre-filed…a…bill…demand[ing] that anti-choice [politicians]…compensate [women] for acting as…gestational surrogate[s] for the state…which…cannot itself physically conceive or carry a child…The compensation…includes reasonable living, legal, medical, psychological, and psychiatric expenses…claim[ing] the fetus as a…tax…deduction…[guaranteed] public assistance…until the child is 18…all medical expenses associated with [any] disability…all costs associated with health, dental, and vision insurance until the child turns 18…and…a college savings plan…

Logically, McLeod is correct; if the state demands a woman produce subjects against her will, it should be responsible for the upkeep of that human property.  But politics is not logical, and politicians who want abortion banned (especially at the absurdly-early stages currently fashionable in these anti-abortion laws) are not acting in good faith.  These laws have nothing to do with “protecting children” and everything to do with controlling women, just like laws against sex work, toplessness, etc; therefore logical responses to them are pointless.  Furthermore, there’s nothing “groundbreaking” about this; similar trolling-bills regulating men’s ejaculation, etc have been introduced in other anti-choice states.  Nor will it “force a conversation” any more than those other bills, because no conversation is possible between those who believe human rights are inalienable and those who view them as an impediment to state ownership of people.  It’s a good troll, to be sure, but a troll is all it is, and all it can be until self-ownership is Constitutionally recognized as the foundation of all human rights.

Legal Is as Legal Does (#582)

Sex work under ‘legalisation’ is still…conceived of as a crime for which the law makes allowances“:

…charges were withdrawn against two women…facing conviction for “a tenant permitting premises to be used as a brothel”…Laura Watson, English Collective of Prostitutes…commented…“Ms O and Ms R were working in a flat together for safety and supporting their families. Both women are migrant and we believe that racism was involved in why they were targeted”…Niki Adams from Legal Action for Women…commented…“We are also disgusted that the [prosecutors] tried to extort money from women offering them a caution on the condition that they “write over the money seized on their arrest.”  Taking money from sex workers under duress is tantamount to pimping”…

The Widening Gyre (#792)

Though better-disguised than usual, this is just the “Facebook pimps” myth again:

…the Roma…are easy pickings for traffickers who post adverts on Facebook promising a bright future for those prepared to travel.  Many have succumbed to the temptation.  A lot of young people have gone to the UK to work for a better life…the line between economic migration and exploitation is ill-defined: some who travel are aware of the risks but prepared to take a chance, others think they are off to start a better life only to end up in modern slavery

In the minds of white saviors, all people from economically-distressed countries are childlike naifs incapable of making calculated risks or violating racist laws on their own, so anyone who helps them further their plans is an exploitative “trafficker” and any work they do to survive is “modern slavery”.  One might ask how the Roma, who have migrated to the British Isles for centuries, managed to do it before anybody ever heard of either Facebook or “human trafficking”.

Cooties (#816)

Two years ago, AirBnB said it would “invest in new technology” to discriminate against sex workers:

Airbnb now owns an AI technology that allows them to discriminate against people in certain categories, specifically including sex workers, based on unrelated social media posts and other online data…it stigmatizes sex work and “involvement in pornography” by grouping them with drug use, membership in hate groups…and “narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy”…the stigmatizing language…spelled out in the patent…seems to confirm sex workers’ reports that they have been discriminated against by the company not because of their behavior as guests, but merely because of their careers…

A Procrustean Bed (#834)

At last, a little skepticism from “journalists” about the prohibitionist shitshow that is New York’s “sex trafficking court”:

…as courts [which classify all sex workers as “victims” and sentence them to indoctrination disguised as “counseling”]…proliferate nationwide, New York’s…have [been repeatedly]…critici[zed for the past] six years [by actual experts on the subject]…a growing group of people engaged in prostitution…have complained that the counseling sessions amount to little more than unproductive conversations with [busybody] strangers…the idea…is [at last] facing skepticism…[from ignoramuses who refused to consult actual experts years ago]…

Prohibitionists are so dedicated to denying sex workers’ agency that they prefer ridiculous multi-word constructions like “people engaged in prostitution” to the simple and honest “sex worker”, and keep pretending that any non-prohibitionist ever thought arresting and attempting to brainwash adult women for the “crime” of consensual sex was a good idea in the first place.

Pyrrhic Victory (#841)

Why wasn’t it “a step too far” when they started doing it three years ago?

One of the most senior policing figures in Wales has [criticized] the use of facial recognition technology at the country’s biggest football derby [last] weekend…Arfon Jones…the North Wales police and crime commissioner…accused the South Wales force of being engaged in a “fishing expedition…When facial recognition…was first used in the Champions League final…there were…thousands…of false positives”…the Football Supporters’ Association Wales said…“Fans coming out for…football…will be treated like they’re in a police line-up”…Big Brother Watch has called for an immediate ban on facial recognition surveillance in the UK…

Checklist (#953)

The scheme to cut sex workers off from the healthcare system is adding intrusive surveillance measures:

There’s a growing push [to force] doctors, paramedics and other health-care professionals to [report sex workers to the cops]…In 2018, Congress passed legislation that created a federally sponsored [indoctrination]…program..[to] tr[ick them into defining sex workers as]…victims…and re[port them by way of new]…diagnostic codes

The Cop Myth (#996)

41% of cops admit to beating their wives. Some don’t stop with mere beating:

A Newark [New Jersey cop who murdered]…his estranged wife…and [attempted to murder] her boyfriend…has [finally] been indicted on murder and attempted murder charges…John Formisano…was indicted…on Dec. 30…[for the murder of] Christie Solaro-Formisano…on July 11…Formisano…was [wearing his magical clown costume and] used his [department-issued] revolver to [murder] his [victim as]…she attempted to flee…The…two children were inside the home…but were uninjured…

Rough Trade

Cops wait a year to arrest a dangerous, violent serial rapist.  Guess why?

Stephen Bradley Ewing was charged on Dec. 17 with two counts of sexual assault and one count of [trying to strangle his victim]…from [rapes]…on June 15 and Aug. 1 of this year…The August offence occurred the same day Ewing was arrested by Nanaimo RCMP…and charged with three counts of [raping sex workers]…between March and October of 2018…

Follow Your Bliss

A “national leader in the field of sex offender management”:

A…forensic psychologist and national leader in the field of sex offender management has surrendered to St. Louis [cops] on warrants for child sex crimes in two Missouri counties…Kurt M. Bumby…is accused of molesting two children in incidents in [two different Missouri] counties, the oldest of those charges stretching back to 1988…

Business As Usual

More cops raping sex workers (excuse me, “rescuing trafficking victims”):

…a two-year federal sex-trafficking [boondoggle] started to unravel last week…[because spooks were caught raping women] at massage parlors in Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City [Arizona in the process of trying to frame ordinary massage parlors as part of]…an alleged sex trafficking network…The [spooks raped women] at each location…but never to completion…the [scheme] led to the arrests of seven people…[but] charges against two of the[m] were dismissed because th[e rapists refuse] to testify [on 5th Amendment grounds.  Meanwhile, a lawsuit from]…one of the women arrested…is seeking disclosure of the full names of the [rapists] and all reports they prepared…more felony cases against [the feds’ victims]…could be dismissed soon…

“It’s not rape because I didn’t jizz” is certainly a novel defense.

Broken Record (#748)

As the hysteria collapses, some “sex trafficking” opportunists will turn to producing “studies” to “find” what is already known:

As the Formula 1…Grand Prix Race approaches each year in Austin…newly published research suggests that…there is not…an…uptick in crimes — sex trafficking or otherwise…in weeks before and after the race….property crimes, violent crimes, and sex-related offenses…[don’t] increase…Earlier this year, COTA and the track owners lost at least $20 million in state reimbursement funds for missing the deadline to submit a…plan [to prevent something that doesn’t exist]…

Torture Chamber (#898)

Imprisonment doesn’t magically become “care” when the prisoner is under 18:

The White House sought…to embed immigration enforcement agents within the U.S. refugee agency that cares for…migrant [minors who were separated from their parents]…to…target the[ir relatives] for deportation…officials…rejected the attempt…[but] agreed to allow [ICE spooks]…to collect fingerprints and other biometric information from adults seeking to claim migrant [minors] at government shelters.  If those adults are deemed ineligible to take custody of children, ICE could then use their information to target them for arrest and deportation…Congress…made clear [after this was done last year, resulting in the arrest of more than 170 relatives] that it does not want those who come forward as potential sponsors of [caged] minors…to be frightened away by possible deportation…[Trump’s henchmen] acknowledge the arrangement will instill fear among migrant parents, but they say it will deter families from having their children cross into the United States illegally…

There is nothing sociopathic politicians (pardon the redundancy) love more than “sending messages” with other people’s lives.

I Spy (#904)

When it comes to mass surveillance, fascism beats communism hands down:

Your smartphone can broadcast your exact location thousands of times per day, through hundreds of apps, instantaneously to dozens of different companies.  Each of those companies has the power to follow individual mobile phones wherever they go, in near-real time.  That’s not a glitch in the system.  It is the system.  If the government ordered Americans to continuously provide such precise, real-time information about themselves, there would be a revolt…Yet…we’ve reached a tacit consensus to hand this data over voluntarily, even though we don’t really know who’s getting it or what they’re doing with it…

Backwards into the Future (#923)

I wonder how long it will be before the US abandons “re-education” for sex workers and clients?

China’s extrajudicial detention of sex workers or their customers, known as “custody and education”, is set to be abolished, in what experts called a long-overdue move.  The detention system has been used to [persecute sex workers]…since the 1980s.  Sex workers and their clients could be detained for up to two years without trial in centres overseen by the police.  More than 300,000 people were detained in custody and education (C&E) between 1987 and 2000…mainland media have reported a steady decrease in detentions in recent years, resulting in the closures of some detention facilities…

If you’re wondering whether to believe that China really intends to give up “re-education” schemes, see “Quiet Genocide” below.

Train Wreck (#935)

The “Abuja Environmental Protection Board” is a Nigerian vice gang long empowered to do basically anything it likes to terrorize sex workers:

A…high court in Abuja has condemned the arrest of women…by [cops and spooks]…She also ruled that sex work is not a crime…The…police, the army, ministry of the federal capital territory (FCT), and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) were…ordered…to pay N1.6 million [$4415 US]…to the affected women.  [The suit was filed after the perpetrators]…arrested over 100 women at…a night club in Abuja…[raping or] sexually assaulting [many of them] them…[or forcing them to] bribe their way to freedom…

Safe Position (#966)

Just another lying politician who wants to police others’ private lives:

…presidential hopeful Andrew Yang said…”we should consider decriminalizing sex work on the part of the seller,” as this would be “helpful in combating human trafficking.”  [The term for what] Yang is talking about…is…the…[Swedish model, not decriminalization, but] lately, a coalition of old-school moral crusaders…has taken to co-opting the language of the sex worker rights movement to push their anti-sex work agenda.  This means many of them say they are for prostitution “decriminalization” while still pushing to keep prostitution between consenting adults as a crime.  They get away with this linguistic malpractice by saying that they would decriminalize the act of offering paid sex as long as it is still illegal to purchase such services.  Obviously, this is not decriminalization within any normal meaning of the word.  Yang’s preferred model would still mean devoting law enforcement resources to catching people attempting to pay for sex—and that would mean monitoring and conducting stings on sex workers…

Quiet Genocide

Pyrrhic Victory (#979)

So progress!  Much Seattle!

At the direction of Mayor Jenny Durkan, [Seattle]’s Human Services Department is studying the possibility of mandatory biometric screening of homeless shelter and service clients, using fingerprints or other biometric markers to track the city’s homeless population…Durkan [mouthpiece] Kamaria Hightower [bloviates] that…a “digital ID” would create “efficiencies” that improve on the scan cards currently used [because] homeless…people…often lose their IDs and other documents when the city sweeps their encampment and [steals] or throws away their stuff, a policy that has accelerated under Durkan…

Torture Chamber (#997)

Just in case you thought screws restricted their petty sadism to the prisoners:

Four women [visiting loved ones] at [a cage stack in Virginia were] told…they had to consent to a strip search immediately after [screws claimed] dogs [“alerted”]…or they would lose all visitation rights…the women…were on or near their period at the time and believe the dogs may have confused that with the smell of drugs.  A [bureaucrat bloviated]…“It is not…policy to permanently ban anyone solely based on their compliance or non-compliance with a strip search”…Each of the women [was tricked into] sign[ing] a consent form believing that to refuse the strip search would mean a permanent ban from the prison.  All were taken to a bathroom and [violated by screws]…Most…also had their cars searched…

Panopticon (#999)

The “security” system that isn’t:

The log-in credentials for 3,672 Ring camera owners were compromised…exposing log-in emails, passwords, time zones, and the names people give to specific Ring cameras…such as “bedroom” or “front door”…Ring says this leak of personal data isn’t its fault.  The company claims there’s been no breach…it’s kind of hard to take Ring’s word for it.  The company has been doing nothing but putting out PR fires ever since its law enforcement partnerships came to light…Ring took no interest in this…until after the security researcher who discovered the compromised credentials discussed his findings on Reddit…Ring [was]…quick to blame users for the commandeering of their cameras by a forum full of shitbirds, but the company does almost nothing to ensure users are protected from malicious activity…

Being freaked out by a van is like being freaked out by a pigeon.
–  Lenore Skenazy

Torture Chamber

Your government refers to this as “correction”:

More than two dozen Maryland [screws]…are being indicted for [beating the hell out of prisoners]…All 25 of the [perpetrators] are part of a special…[gang of screws] which is brought in to [beat the hell out of prisoners.  Other]…charges include…participation in a criminal gang [other than the official one organized by the state]…All 25…have been…suspended without pay…

Maryland apparently doesn’t like it when a gang of thugs specifically organized to beat up prisoners organize themselves in a different way to…beat prisoners up in a different way?

Bad Fantasy, Good Reality (#626)

The rescue industry loves its sexual fantasies about Cambodian brothels; the truth is more mundane:

Ahya…left Prey Veng for Phnom Penh five years ago to work in a garment factory after divorcing her “lazy and drunkard” husband, leaving her two children and one orphaned niece under the care of her mother.  However, she could not support her family on her salary as a factory worker.  Then, some friends introduced her to her current job in a…massage parlour…providing “what men want”…“People can criticise us, calling what we are doing a deviation in society…But, those people do not feed me and my family”…

To Molest and Rape

Even being dead can’t protect you from sexually-aggressive cops:

An LAPD [cop] has been [rewarded with a paid vacation] after footage captured by a body-worn camera [clear]ly showed him [grop]ing a deceased woman’s breasts…About a month ago…[unelected] union [gangsters who are allowed to control public policy reluctantly agreed to] a protocol in which the LAPD could randomly check video footage from body-worn cameras…[after] a body was found inside of a residence…[two pigs were sent to root around.  While] one…left to retrieve paperwork from [their pigmobile] the other…turned off his bodycam and then [felt up the cadaver.  But even though]…the [creepy cop] deactivated his camera, a two-minute buffer on the device captured [his disgusting behavior and] the…camera…was [later reviewed]…at random…

Interesting that they’re more willing to act when a cop molests a corpse than when he does the same to a living woman.  I’m sure he’ll claim at the hearing that she came onto him.

Property of the State (#756)

Evelyn Hernández’ nightmare still isn’t over:

…El Salvador…criminalizes women living in poverty when they have pregnancy- or birth-related complications…Since 2000, at least 129 women have been imprisoned…abortion is totally banned, even when the woman’s life is at risk.  Some of these women have been charged with aggravated homicide and sentenced to as many as 40 years…Many of those women languished in prison…until 2014, when activists requested a presidential pardon for 17 of them and launched a global campaign to demand their release.  But…[in response] the Salvadoran state has…escalated…its criminalization of these women…For Hernández, the nightmare began in 2016, when she delivered a [stillborn] baby…she didn’t [even] know she was expecting…she hemorrhaged severely…and…was hospitalized for six days.  She was accused of aggravated homicide and…in July 2017…was sentenced to 30 years in prison…In December 2018…her [lawyers got her] sentence…annulled, and the judge called for a retrial…she returned to court [last] August for the retrial, [in] which…[she] was [found] innocent…But 18 days later, the attorney general’s office…[announced] it would appeal the judge’s decision, opening the possibility of a third trial…

Neither Addiction Nor Epidemic (#855)

Will “PTSD” replace the thoroughly-debunked “sex addiction” as an excuse for bad behavior?

A Perth [cop] who [claims he] was suffering from undiagnosed post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because of his job has been jailed for almost two years for possessing images and videos of “explicit and depraved” sexual abuse of [toddlers]…David Mark Dodson…was working as a detective…when Canadian authorities discovered he had used social media to send an image…of a girl, aged between two and four, being raped.  Australian [cops] then raided his home and found almost 350 images and videos of…girls as young as two being abused by adults…Dodson…[claims becoming a sexual predator] was “a direct result of his occupation”…

Well, I can’t deny that being a cop increases sexual predation, even if it doesn’t actually cause it.

Part of the Picture (#859)

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the moronic claim that pictures magically “rewire” the brain:

Rachel Anne Barr, a [prohibitionist, pretends]…studies show people who regularly watch adult entertainment often develop damage to the prefrontal cortex…Barr [claims] “adult entertainment may revert our brain wiring to a more juvenile state…porn appears to be hijacking our neural wiring with dire consequences”…when a person uses cocaine, their brains give off a rush of dopamine, the “feel-good” hormone…

Yep, despite the sensational language this is just the debunked “dopamine theory”.  Again.  For those unfamiliar with the topic, saying “X produces a rush of dopamine” is the neuroscience equivalent of saying “X is pleasant”.  It means nothing more than that; it isn’t some scary weird thing.

The Widening Gyre (#961)

The more cops are forced to deny “sex trafficking” scary tales, the harder it will be for them to spread such tales themselves:

…[viral scarelore] claims that sex traffickers are putting zip ties on cars to make it easier to target victims.  But police say it just isn’t true.  [Scare stories] have popped up on TikTokFacebook and  Twitter over the last year, imploring women not to fiddle with zip ties they’ve found on their cars…Officials in Michigan…liken[ed] the claims to dangerous myth…[while simultaneously pretending that their own equally idiotic  claims about] sex traffickers [pulling screaming childen through the internet are true]…Celia Williamson, [a trafficking fetishist]…at the University of Toledo [added her own weird sexual fantasies about “pimps” and “grooming”]…In 2017, LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana debunked a rumor that human traffickers were placing white stickers on windshields to mark future targets…but…reporte[rs still feel compelled to quote evidence-free claims about tens of thousands of]…victims trafficked in the United States every year…

What makes these especially funny is that there has never been a single case of a woman or child abducted by “sex traffickers” from any public place, much less a crowded shopping mall.  But THIS SEX TRAFFICKING IS OUT OF CONTROL!

Disaster (#975)

A timid but possibly important challenge to FOSTA from inside Congress:

[Politician] Ro Khanna…is drafting legislation that would…call on the National Institutes of Health to study the impact of [FOSTA, which]…enacts steep penalties on any digital actor that “facilitates”…prostitution…Khanna [is] one of just 25 House members and two senators who voted against the legislation.  Sex workers, civil liberties advocates, and many others warned in advance about the dangers posed by [this awful law]…but they were overshadowed by well-funded lobbyists, pandering politicians, and a media more interested in easy narratives…than listening to those most impacted by the legislation.  Ideally, FOSTA would be repealed entirely.  But getting enough votes for repeal right now would be unlikely, so Khanna’s approach might be the current only way forward for reform…

You Were Warned (#976)

These predatory lawsuits won’t stop until FOSTA is repealed:

A[n ambulance-chaser is claiming her client] was sex-trafficked as a result of a…[magical] email sent via Mailchimp, an email marketing platform, [and] is suing the company…in Georgia [in an attempt to destroy Section 230]…Annie McAdams…claim[s] Mailchimp…worked with [Backpage] copycat site YesBackpage.com [in some way that was somehow fundamentally different from other email services]…McAdams is taking aim at Mailchimp with the hope [of a big payout]…she [also vomited out disgusting filth about] “send[ing] a message”…

Pyrrhic Victory (#979)

You know how wannabe “civil liberties advocates” keep bleating that the main problem with facial recognition systems are that they’re less acurate on dark-skinned people?  Yeah, about that:

…AnyVision, an Israeli facial recognition tech company funded by Microsoft, has been wielding its software to help enforce Israel’s military occupation, using the occupied West Bank to field-test technology it plans to export around the world…Microsoft[‘s]…funding…AnyVision…was a shockingly unethical decision by a company attempting to establish itself as a “moral leader” in the tech industry…[last year] Microsoft publicly committed to six principles to guide its facial recognition work.  One of these principles is a commitment to [making surveillance] lawful…for [fascist governments]…Following the [baclsh]…Microsoft announced it would end its relationship with AnyVision if an independent audit finds that AnyVision violates any of Microsoft’s [so-called] principles…[but] on November 15, Microsoft announced that [surveillance fan] Eric Holder will lead the independent audit

Held Together With Lies (#993)

While fascist organs like Time parrot racist government propaganda about how brown people making considered decisions in search of a better life are actually passive, childlike “slaves” in need of deportation “repatriation”, media actually owned and run by brown people are publishing articles like this:

Recent years have seen a huge increase in public, political and media attention…[to] “modern slavery“…understood as analogous to terms like “human trafficking”…the number of institutions involved in [profiting from]…this…has mushroomed, from a handful in the early 1990s to many hundreds todayMillions of dollars have been spent annually…while media outlets have provided…sensationalist…coverage…”Modern slavery”, as a concept, is a recent Euro-American invention.  It sprang up in the 1990s among [racist, prohibitionist] NGOs which found it to be an effective and attractive tool for spreading their [propaganda] and raising funds.  A key figure in this story is Kevin Bales, who established the widely critiqued Global Slavery Index…and…the [very] idea of modern slavery in the public consciousness…[this paradigm] constructs certain non-Western phenomena as problematic (such as the survival work done by poor children in much of the Global South) while excluding from concern Western phenomena (such as migrant detention centres) which are…even more troublesome…[most] poor workers labelled as modern slaves or victims of trafficking [and subjected to]…force[d “rescue”]…underst[an]d themselves as having consented to their work because doing so represented the best of their very limited options.  Rescue was therefore undesired and even abusive

The Monsters Are Due (#994)

One can hardly blame the hoi-polloi for “sex trafficking” hysteria when “authorities” are vomiting up this kind of idiocy:

White van hysteria has hit a new high, with Baltimore Mayor Jack Young warning his citizens not to even park near a white van [because] people in…these vehicles are coming to enslave young women, force them into prostitution, murder them, and sell their body parts…When asked for the source of his information by the skeptical local reporter Vanessa Herring, he said: “It’s all over Facebook”…This incredibly thorough CNN report tracked down viral postings of the white van story and seems to have found the origin…a November 13 post by a Baltimore resident claimed she had seen two men in a white van outside a gas station who would not stop staring at her…the woman even wrote that she thought other people on social media were exaggerating when they posted about their terrifying white van encounters, but now that she had this terrifying (non) encounter of her own, she was a believer…stranger abductions are incredibly rare.  The number of minors (under age 18) kidnapped and killed by a stranger is about nine a year, in a country of about 65 million minors…David Finkelhor, head of the Crimes Against Children Resource Center…[has] heard of no cases of a child being snatched from a parent in a public place and sex-trafficked.  Not one…

The Cop Myth (#995)

41% of cops admit to beating their wives. Some don’t stop with mere beating:

[Megan Montgomery was] found shot to death in…a…parking lot…[months after] obtain[ing] a restraining order against her [estranged] husband, a [typical and representative cop named] Jason Bragg McIntosh…[who] resigned from the Hoover [Alabama] Police Department…[after he shot her in the arm]…on Feb. 23…Montgomery filed for divorce in May…[after which] McIntosh was [arrested] again [for attacking her]

Since the story seems deliberately designed to be confusing, I’ll express it competently: McIntosh & Montgomery were married in February of ’18.  They fought often and separated after he shot her in the arm during an argument in February of this year.  She took out a restraining order in March, then in May she filed for divorce and he was arrested for beating her up.  Then he finally murdered her in a parking lot on December 1st.

Sex workers are better aware than most of the value of sex. – Jerry Barnett

Check Your Premises

“Sex trafficking” charges are often hurled at anyone who helps an underage sex worker instead of ratting her out to the pigs:

A transgender woman [entrapped by pigs] nearly two years ago was sentenced to at least eight years imprisonment for…[showing] a girl who was 17 at the time of the incident [how to post an online ad].  Ashanti Welton McLean…was [caught in a trap planned by]…the FBI…District Attorney Ben David…[vomited up a lot of sick sex fantasies and then bragged about his part in getting a shitty. draconian law passed]…McLean…was a transgender escort…only involved in sexual services with adults…the 17-year-old…told court officials that “Ms. McLean had no idea what I was doing”…[the prosecutor gleefully crowed that after her]…release…from prison…McLean [will be condemned to the]…sex…offender [registry]…for…30 years…

South of the Border

It’s difficult to be completely sure due to all the “sex trafficking” mumbo-jumbo in this article, but it seems to be saying that Mexico is headed toward a kind of soft decriminalization by getting rid of “avails” laws.  There’s a lot of nonsense about “consensual exploitation”, but the article mentions that Mexico intends to follow UN recommendations, and most UN bureaus other than UNODC recommend decriminalization.  Also, arch-prohibitionists CATW don’t like the change, which almost certainly means it will benefit sex workers.  So…yay?  I’ll let you know when I find a clearer article.

Train Wreck

I’m fascinated by the bizarre & stilted language used in African news articles about sex workers:

There was drama at a famous brothel in…Mombasa…after police disrupted business, leading to unceremonious end that saw clients scamper away without paying…While castigating police for the clumsy raid, the women of easy virtue demanded respect, saying that theirs is a business, just like any other and it was important for police to have some decency during their operations…So embarrassing was the incident that some of the sex workers took to the streets to protest the harassment the following day…[reporting that] police…extort…them of the little money they make, with some demanding [they submit to rape or be arrested]…

The Face of Trafficking

What an actual attempt to abduct women into forced prostitution looks like:

…aspiring pimp Andrew Frey…[was] arrest[ed for trying to abduct two women]…Frey…initially hired the Long Island wo[men]…before attempting to kidnap the[m]…He arranged separate meetings with the women…one in October 2018 and one this July — and then used force to keep them in line as he drove into secluded areas with plans of abduction…“Both separately managed to escape Frey by jumping from his moving vehicle and sustaining injuries in the process…The nature of his conduct … was sufficiently violent that both deemed it a safer option to throw themselves from a moving vehicle in order to escape”…Frey later reached out to both victims [again]…and even attempted to forcibly abduct Jane Doe #1 with a weapon on a second occasion…Frey has a history of violence against sex workers, including one who sought an order of protection after he intentionally slammed his car into her vehicle.  Frey then violated the order by leaving threatening voicemails on the victim’s phone…He was currently charged with attempted sex trafficking…and attempted kidnapping…

An Older Profession Than You May Have Thought (#635)

It’s impossible to state this too often:

The total value of the sex trade could be said to be the value of the net transfer of wealth from men to women…The UK flower industry was worth almost £1bn last year…many are bought…by men for…courtship. What about restaurant meals, hotel rooms, concert tickets, diamonds, taxi fares, cocktails, vacations…?…Historically, what proportion of the silk carried (invariably by men) along the Silk Road found itself worn by the wealthy wives and mistresses of Europe?…The original female industry—the sex trade—was undoubtedly far bigger than any of the other (male-created) industries, because its role was to collect a dividend on all male-led activity. The greater the innovation and diversification of male-run industries, the larger the sex trade became….

The Swedish Pimpocracy (#741)

As I’ve said for nine years, Sweden has never given a damn about this rape charge; it was simply an excuse to turn Assange over to the US:

…Deputy director of [Swedish] prosecutions Eva-Marie Persson told journalists that the case against Assange had been discontinued…Assange remains [caged in a London] prison…[while] American prosecutors seek…his extradition…for [the “crime” of revealing facts the US didn’t want revealed]…He faces a full extradition hearing…in February 2020, with the inevitable appeal probably being heard…in the second half of next year…

Pyrrhic Victory (#974)

Why I keep telling you local laws banning facial recognition are feel-good bullshit:

Over the last decade, large police forces…like the Seattle Police Department…have turned to facial recognition technology to…track down [people they want to cage]…and…thousands of pages of…emails…confirm the existence of a massive, secretive network of police departments working together to share these…tools [since]…at least 2016…these departments explicitly tried to keep this…secret from the public…requests in Washington state were made through a [secret] listserv known as FITlist…[Pigs] on the listserv are encouraged to adopt a Fight Club-style directive that precludes group members from discussing [its] existence…One document explicitly says: “Do not mention FITlist in your reports or search warrant affidavits”…Shankar Narayan…of the…ACLU of Washington…says…secret partnerships like these [will] be used to circumvent jurisdictions [like California] that have banned facial recognition technology…[for example,] despite public claims by New Orleans officials that the city’s police do not employ facial recognition…[they] tap…state police to do the job…

Rescued To Death (#977)

Here’s another American “journalist” who thinks her sadfeelz about sex trump poor women’s right to make a living.  Note her liberal use of scare quotes and her devotion to words like “illegal” (used as a synonym for “wrong”), “exploitation” (used as a synonym for “work”), and “hold accountable” (used as a synonym for “prosecute someone who isn’t a government actor“); note also that most of her “facts” come from rescue industry profiteer ECPAT, one of the most active pushers of “100,000 child sex slaves” propaganda and bogus “checklists” used to justify surveillance of women and minorities in hotels, airplanes and other public places.  She talked to exactly one sex worker, whom she says was underage but admits did not have a pimp; no Philippine sex worker activists were even mentioned despite their previously-sated strong opinions on Westerners writing tragedy porn of this sort about them:  “We really do not care about  ‘patriarchy’, ‘commodification’ and other words they spew.  Those matters don’t bring food on our table nor pay for our rent.  All we are interested in is to work undisturbed“…

To Molest and Rape (#985)

Cops show you what they are all the time; why don’t you believe them?

Bristow, OK…[cop] Bradley Don Goodin…was arrested…and charged with [multiple] counts of…child sexual abuse…[after] the [mother] of one [nine-year-old] victim…walked into a bathroom on Oct. 5 and found Goodin with his hand inside the little girl’s pants…Goodin…threatened to hurt the mother and the child if they told anyone…he [then]…claimed to be applying itch creme to…bug bites [conveniently located in her genital area]…Goodin then [changed his story]…to claim his watch got stuck in the girl’s clothing, which the mother mistook as molestation…The second victim, an 11-year-old girl, told investigators that Goodin had touched her inappropriately more than five times…he has since been [rewarded with a]…paid [vacation]…

Panopticon

The state believes it owns you and you have no right to defend yourself from it:

…the state of Indiana charged a [citizen] with theft for removing a government-owned GPS tracking device from his [vehicle].  This month, the state’s Supreme Court began considering the case…in July 2018…the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office got a warrant to attach a GPS tracking device to Derek Heuring’s car…[after a cop claimed that a snitch told] them…Heuring was…sell[ing] meth…Heuring…discovered and removed it…[so cops got] a warrant to search Heuring’s home and…found methamphetamine and [the GPS tracker]…So Heuring was charged both with drug dealing and with theft of the GPS device…the search…[was] illegal because the police didn’t have probable cause…[for] theft…[and] even if Heuring did [remove] the device…it…wasn’t…labeled as the property of the [pigs]…most important…multiple justices seemed skeptical of the idea that taking a tracking device off your own car amounted to theft…

Disaster (#988)

Morons cheer when a highway is destroyed, then get upset when the traffic goes into side streets:

[Busybodies in San Jose absurdly fantasize that] a growing prostitution problem has made them prisoners in their own homes…[blah blah] “kids walking to school and seeing…underwear on the street” [THE HORROR!!!]…[sows role-play as sex workers] to catch the johns…[blah blah] proactive…[blah blah] criminal element…[blah blah] send a strong message…[blah blah] innocent moms…being a target for johns…

There is no bourgeois housewife fantasy funnier than the notion that they are so hot men just can’t keep from propositioning them or that they’ll be stalked by “sex traffickers” in Ikea.

This is completely insane and endangers the property rights of anyone in Massachusetts.  –  Dan Alban

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

I would agree that offering a woman in Seattle only $40 is indeed attempted sexual exploitation:

A Seattle [cop]…was arrested…[for] sexual exploitation[, released less than 30 minutes later] and [rewarded with a paid vacation]…Randal Woolery…has not [yet] been charged…Sexual exploitation is the [virtue-signaling] term the city of Seattle has adopted [after being paid to do so by a sociopathic billionaire] for the misdemeanor…that’s known as patronizing a prostitute in other Washington jurisdictions…

Droit du Seigneur

Though pimps are not common, a disproportionate number of the ones who do exist are cops:

Wallace Waliczek…is [a New York cop] charged with…promoting [the] prostitution…of his wife, Melissa…who…[was caught in a pig trap]…Waliczek [was] suspended without pay..[from] working [as a screw]…in the Erie County [cage stack]…Mrs. Waliczek’s case…is now pending in Human Trafficking Court in Buffalo…[the DA] says…Melissa Waliczek may have been coerced into [sex work]…

The Cold, Grey Light of Dawn (#824)

It’ll be interesting to see if they quietly muscle power away from him as Pennsylvania is doing to Krasner:

The new San Francisco district attorney has said his office will not prosecute prostitution…public urination…[or] other [so-called] quality-of-life crimes……[such as] blocking a sidewalk and public camping—crimes that can see homeless people charged for sleeping out on the street…It is not clear whether Boudin will follow through with this policy now that he has been elected…

Lack of Evidence (#897)

Where “rescued” means “arrested” and “safe” means “caged and awaiting deportation”.  How stupid do these pigs think we are?

…17 people were arrested and are being [caged using the fantasy] of modern slavery…As part of a joint operation with Romanian police called “Operation Kelang”, the raids were executed at 16 addresses in [East London]…as well as four addresses in Romania.  A total of 29…women [the cops have labeled victims]…have been rescued from London addresses and are now safe…

Compare the UK government’s calling arrest “rescue” and jail “safeguarding”, with China’s calling concentraton camps “job training centers”.

Safe Position (#966)

If the Democratic Party were run by people who care about human rights, this would be its official position:

…Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley introduced a resolution calling for an overhaul of the U.S. criminal justice system…includ…ing the death penalty, cash-bail system…minimum sentences…[and] a call to decriminalize sex work…According to Pressley, the resolution is the result of working with more than 20 grassroots organizations and individuals negatively affected by the U.S. legal system…[However,] Pressley [has] endorsed [prohibitionist] Elizabeth Warren for president…[even though] Warren…endorse[s Swedish criminalization]…and…though Pressley was not [yet] in Congress to [support FOSTA]…her website stated as recently as last year that she supported [internet censorship and the banning of sex workers’ advertising]…[Since] the resolution…also calls for the decriminalization of marijuana, addiction, poverty, and migration [it cannot possibly pass Congress and is best understood as Pressley signalling her official position on these subjects]…

A Moral Cancer (#972)

Your “leaders” will use any excuse to further empower cops to rob people:

…Massachusetts [already] has “the worst civil forfeiture laws in the country“…[and now] the Massachusetts House…approved a bill that would ban flavored e-cigarettes, impose a 75 percent excise tax on “electronic nicotine delivery systems” (including e-liquids as well as devices), and authorize [cops to steal] cars driven by [anyone a cop chooses to plant] “untaxed” products [on]…This bill permanently bans “flavored tobacco products,” including menthol cigarettes as well as vaping liquids that taste or smell like anything other than tobacco.  It does not apply to hookah bars or [the bootleg] marijuana vapes [which started the moral panic]…

Pyrrhic Victory (#974)

When a headline asks a question, the answer is nearly always “no”:

…the Facial Recognition Technology Warrant Act…would require federal officials to get a warrant if they’re going to use facial recognition technology to attempt to track a specific person’s public movements for more than 72 hours.  The bill does not prohibit the use of facial recognition technology to identify people or…to monitor events in real time.  Indeed, it says the authorities can use facial recognition to identify people, even without a warrant, as long as “no subsequent attempt is made to track that individual’s movement in real time or through the use of historical records after the individual has been identified”…The bill also doesn’t stop the feds from accessing or using the hundreds of millions of face pictures they’ve already collected from drivers licenses and passports.  In fact, it specifically gives such use a thumbs-up…

Quiet Genocide

“Xi urged the party to emulate aspects of America’s ‘war on terror’”:

…403 pages of internal documents [leaked to] The New York Times…provide an unprecedented inside view of the continuing [genocidal campaign] in Xinjiang…The [Chinese Communist] party has rejected international criticism of the [concentration] camps and described them as job-training centers that use mild methods to fight Islamic extremism.  But the documents confirm the coercive nature of the crackdown in the words and orders of the very officials who conceived and orchestrated it…Children saw their parents taken away…and crops could not be planted or harvested for lack of manpower…Yet officials were directed to tell people who complained to be grateful for the Communist Party’s help and stay quiet…[about] the…most far-reaching internment campaign since…Mao…[which] expanded rapidly after the appointment in August 2016 of Chen Quanguo, a zealous new party boss for the region…Chen…purg[ed communist] officials suspected of standing in his way, including one county leader who was jailed after quietly releasing thousands of inmates from the camps…There are also references to plans to extend restrictions on Islam to other parts of China…

The Cop Myth (#981)

41% of cops admit to beating their wives. Some don’t stop with mere beating:

[Typical and representative Massachusetts cop] Brian Fanion…[has finally been] charge[d]…with the [murder] of his wife last year, which…he staged as a suicide…Fanion was having an affair…and [didn’t want] to surrender half his pension in…a divorce [so he just shot her and put his gun in her dead hand.  But]…forensic experts found the trajectory of the bullet and other factors made a suicide “impossible”…

Disaster (#986)

As I’ve said repeatedly, FOSTA was a huge miscalculation by prohibitionists:

…sex workers, researchers, journalists, law students and allies met…at Harvard University…to learn…about the ways in which…communities have been organizing and protecting themselves from the threat of mass surveillance and online censoring in the wake of SESTA-FOSTA…The law itself, along with the reactions of the general public, internet platforms and the sex working community, has had a profound impact…on…the entire American political landscape…sex workers have been organizing their communities long before the internet…[but] SESTA-FOSTA has sparked an increase in political involvement [among] sex work[ers]…who may have previously chosen to remain apolitical…

Top Cop (#988)

I really love seeing this monster’s attempted power grab going down the toilet:

Kamala Harris’ campaign is careening toward a crackup.  As the California senator [neglects her duties in Congress] trying to revive her sputtering presidential bid, aides at her fast-shrinking headquarters are deep into the finger-pointing stages.  And much of the blame is being placed on campaign manager Juan Rodriguez…[for accepting his role as second banana to] campaign chair Maya Harris, the candidate’s sister, and [none on the fact that Harris is the most eagerly, sociopathically carceral of all the candidates, including Trump]…one senior Harris official…described the current state of the campaign in blunt terms: “No discipline. No plan. No strategy.”  This account is based on interviews with more than a dozen current and former staffers…granted anonymity to…protect them from re[taliation by their jail-happy boss]…
