It would help if truck drivers, nurses, factory workers, accountants, plumbers, teachers, bricklayers, data entry clerks, ditch diggers, medical records coders, etc. could see that sex workers are workers. Even a very successful call girl is just somebody with a really good job. She may have short, flexible hours with good pay, but she's still as much a part of "the 99%" as any of those folks out there getting pepper sprayed by NYPD.

This is badly needed all over again, it's almost disappointing to read that there was such anger and such uproar but in 37 years, society seems to still be moving in the same circles of criminalisation over acceptance and compassion.

France's National Assembly has given it's commitment to pursuing the Swedish model these days. The more things change, the more they seem to stay the same. It's just attacking these strong, resilient yet harassed women from another angle and attacking a possibly more vulnerable link in the chain - the clients who could end up losing their own livelihoods and families were there private life to be exposed.

It almost angers me that society is unable to deal respectfully and rationally with the whole issue of sex work without jumping to extremes of either legalised over-regulation or complete outright criminalisation.

>and the French tax authorities made ridiculous estimates of the number of clients each protesting worker saw, then presented them with tax bills exceeding their entire incomes.

This still goes on, in the USA. As does the threats by cops to take away children.
