I think it might have something to do with nuances in views of salvation and how it’s attained, too; the Catholic view that you might actually have to do something to achieve salvation leads naturally to the conclusion that different actions have different consequences and not everything is black and white. A lot of “old line” Protestants – Lutherans, Methodists, and so on – would be more open to this viewpoint, but your conservative denominations, with their halo-or-hellfire, works don’t matter views are not likely to agree.

FWIW, I think many Mormons would at least be able to see nuances, although they may not be as grey-oriented as I am. But I might just be projecting. ;)

It is not a matter of the lesser of two evils being allowed. Rather it was that even someone deeply immersed in evil can have a moral insight, because we are not totally corrupt and depraved. Whenever the Catholic tradition has adopted “lesser of two evil” language it has said that the lesser of two evils is what we are morally obliged to do. The Pope did NOT say that prostitution using a condom is a moral obligation or a moral good.

Crystal’s claim to fame (other than her website and channel) is that she was the girlfriend (and briefly wife) of one Todd Skinner. His claim to fame is that he was manufacturing more LSD than everybody else in the world put together. Now, that’s a big claim, and when Cole made my eyebrows raised. But I looked it up and her claim is true.

Her YouTube videos describe effects and dangers of various substances. That is where I first heard the phrase “harm reduction.”
